Keystone, originally a Blue Star group Garage, was purchased by Ben Heron's father, Harold, towards the end of the Second World War. At that time it was in use as an auxiliary fire station and was not released by the war department until 1946.
New cars, after the war, were unobtainable to the private motorist and it took a great deal of persuasion for Ben to obtain a Rover/Land Rover dealership, which was retained until the amalgamation of Austin/Rover/Triumph to form British Leyland.
Ben built the business up by working long hours, opening from eight in the morning to midnight, seven days a week and offering a twenty-four hour breakdown and accident recovery service - something that was unheard of at that time.
